This is a new role within a small team for a privately owned UK manufacturer of dehydrated ingredients, supplying food manufacturers, distributors and re-packers on a global basis.

The job is a supporting role to the companies sales force, dealing with customer inquiries, invoice queries, sample requests, contract balances and promotional work.

Maintenance of a sales contact database, with some cold calling and the scheduling of meetings.

Communicating with customers, via telephone and email; passing requests for information to the relevant department, and following up on any required actions ensuring that customer is satisfied with the response. Expected to establish a good rapport with customer contacts.

Ensuring that pricing on orders and contracts are correct, it is critical that company database is maintained with the correct information; logging new quotations on the database whilst maintaining a historical customer record.

Focused attention to detail will be required and the role will involve working both individually and as part of a team. An ideal person for the position will have all the following key skills:

BEng (Hons) (HND/HNC minimum) in mechanical engineering or similar.

  • Fully conversant with Autodesk Inventor, Autocad and Microsoft office.
  • Knowledge of 3D modelling & piping preferable, but not essential.
    Min 5 years’ experience in designing and detailing process plant & SPM (special purpose machinery).
  • Understanding of Industrial process installations and applications (Water, Chemical)

Biotech Laboratory Services Limited – Laboratory Technician

£14,000 – £16,000 PA

Biotech Laboratory Services Limited specialise in the testing of samples from anaerobic digestion, including analysis of feedstock to determine their potential for gas production and co-products, digester analysis for process control monitoring and the testing of digestate to determine its value as a sustainable fertiliser. BLS also provide on-going consultancy to its clients and design and implement R&D protocols for bespoke client investigations.

BLS are in the process of carrying out method validation in preparation for accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 and have made substantial investments in the instrumentation within the laboratory to help achieve our quality goals which is at the forefront of our business model.

We are currently looking for a laboratory technician to join our growing team of analysts and help with the day-to-day analysis and quality assurance, no experience within AD is necessary but will be a great advantage and duties will include:

  • Carry out analytical tasks on a variety of instrumentation and provide a specialist analytical service in order to satisfy the requirements of the laboratory.
  • Attend site for the collection of samples and carry out the necessary risk assessments and method statements required for site work.
  • Calibration of instrumentation and methodologies within the laboratory in accordance with pre-defined specifications.
  • Assist with method development for the laboratory.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain and manage a clean and well-arranged work environment at all times, ensuring the health and safety of themselves and others around them in keeping with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice)
  • Identify occurrence of departures from the quality system and from procedures for performing tests and calibrations and initiate actions to prevent or minimise such departures ensuring that the standard requirements are met.
  • Prepare and maintain documents in compliance with the quality management system and assist in the preparation of technical documents.
  • Interpretation of test results and escalate deviations to management.
  • Any other duties as prescribed by the management.

The ideal candidate will be qualified to BTEC/NVQ Level 2 or higher in a microbiological or chemistry related field and have experience or knowledge of working in the anaerobic digestion or waste to energy industry or working to ISO 17025 standards will be a key advantage. Experience working with any of the techniques of gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, ion chromatography, sample preparation techniques and wet chemistry will also be an advantage but full training will be given.

Nanoco Technologies – Production Technician

£16 – £18K basic; plus 20% shift premium, Runcorn, UK

Reporting to the Run Plan Leader, you will have responsibility for general laboratory housekeeping and cleaning, managing and cleaning of glassware, managing waste solvents and waste solvents collection, monitoring/maintaining laboratory chemicals, solvents and consumables supplies, monitoring stock levels, taking deliveries, arranging shipments, carrying out maintenance and calibration of equipment. Supporting Production Chemists via cleaning vessels, testing & commissioning vessels, equipment assembly and basic plant maintenance. There will be opportunity to do basic precursor preparation depending on skills and experience.

It is desirable for applicants to have at least A-level or HNC/HND qualifications in chemistry or relevant science subject. Applicants should also have proven practical skills in equipment maintenance (electrical/electronic and mechanical) in a laboratory or similar environment. Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, Email and Internet) and industry experience are a must. Operational/manufacturing experience, preferably in a laboratory or chemical using process, would be an advantage.

You should also have excellent organisational skills and be able to change priorities at short notice and work to tight deadlines. Good interpersonal skills are needed, enabling you to operate successfully in a multi-disciplinary/cross-functional team. You will need the ability to learn quickly and work both independently and in a team with minimum supervision.

Location: The role is based in Runcorn, but the job holder may be required to work at any Nanoco location as required.

Working hours:

12 hours shifts, following 24 hr operation. This will comprise of a Day Shift running from 7.00am – 7.00pm and a Night Shift running from 7.00pm – 7.00am. This will follow a 24/3.5 pattern. You will be required to work this pattern which is four days on, three days off, three nights on, four days off. It is a two week repeating cycle across the year. It does not include weekend working, although flexibility is required as the site may operate varied shift work patterns as demand requires.

Nanoco Technologies – Production Chemist

£21 – 22K basic; plus 20% shift premium, Runcorn, UK

Reporting to the Run Plant Leader, you will be directly involved in production of nanomaterials at our Runcorn manufacturing facility, including the formulation and blending of nanomaterials into plastic resins or other products in a Continuous Improvement and Lean focused environment.

You will be expected to work in a shift team with other production chemists and production technicians to produce materials to meet the production plan; following procedures to meet operating requirements and constraints; optimise costs and following production protocols to meet agreed product specifications.

Duties will include: batch operation of reactors and other equipment (up to 50 Litre batch scale), maintenance of production and experimental equipment; preparation of starting materials via chemical synthesis; performing analytical testing of intermediates and finished products and adhering to disciplined procedures to document and analyse ongoing batch production.

You should have a BSc in Chemistry or equivalent qualifications and experience; proven synthetic chemistry experience especially in the production and safe handling of air-sensitive chemicals; analytical skills; IT skills; a high level of safety awareness; experience of working successfully in an interdisciplinary/cross-functional team. You should also have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to change priorities at short notice and work to tight deadlines. You will need the ability to learn quickly, demonstrate flexibility and work both independently and in a small team with minimum supervision.

This role is based at our facility in Runcorn, but there may be a need to work at our premises in Manchester at times. Candidates must be prepared to work flexibly between these two locations.
