Labour have held on to all their seats in Halton, despite speculation that the unpopularity of the Mersey Gateway tolls could have influenced the vote. Leader of Halton Council Rob Polhill commented “I’m really pleased about the results. We’re never complacent in Halton but to expect to win and not lose any is a really good result”. He added that we would never be complacent even with such a large majority, and vowed to continue looking after the borough’s most vulnerable.
18 seats were up for grabs in 17 wards and labour controlled 17 seats, with the Lib Dems controlling 1 seat in The Heath ward, adjacent to The Heath Business & Technical Park. Councillor Chris Rowe won by a margin of 180 votes. Congratulations to Chris too.
